Who we are

This website is run by Sidney Sussex Boat Club (SSBC), a student society of Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, which is responsible for any personal data described here. Contact the Captain at sidney.captain@cucbc.org.

What this site collects

Very little. The site has no accounts, forms, adverts or embedded social media, and sets no cookies.

  • Server logs: like almost every website, our server records each request's IP address, time and page, to keep the site running and secure. Logs are kept for 14 days, then deleted.
  • Visitor statistics: we count visits with Umami, which runs on our own server and uses no cookies. It records the page, the site you came from, your browser, device type and rough location (country or city), but not your IP address, and can't identify you. We use it only to see which pages are useful. We respect your browser's Do Not Track setting, and you can opt out below.
  • River flag and lighting times: our own server fetches these from CUCBC, so your browser doesn't connect to CUCBC and CUCBC doesn't see your visit.
  • Links: Instagram, Facebook, CUCBC and Wikipedia have their own privacy policies, which apply once you follow a link.

Photos of people

The gallery includes photos of club members from 2000 to 2015, first published on the club's previous website, and the site shows some recent club photos. If you appear in a photo and would like it removed, email sidney.captain@cucbc.organd we'll take it down.

We strive to credit photographers and to make sure every image on this site is properly sourced and used with permission. Many photos were taken by club members and supporters over the years, and not every photographer is known.

If you took a photo shown here and would like it credited, or you didn't give permission for it to be used, please email the Captain at sidney.captain@cucbc.org and we'll add a credit or remove it promptly.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask what personal data we hold about you and have it corrected or deleted, including photos of you. Email us to do this. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
